Why would I do this?
Indexing, search, accessibility, study transcripts, language learning. Plain text is what most people want when they ask for "the words from this subtitle file".
Can I get timing back later?
Not from plain text alone. If you need timing, keep the original subtitle file. To produce a fresh timed transcript from audio, use OmniSubs’ main transcription tool.
